Prototype:Correction!
A downloadable game
A text adventure through the most basic fantasy world that you must navigate armed only with an aggressive sense of superiority. And perhaps some ducks(to be implemented later).
The setting is subject to change.
Reflection:
It didn't really showcase the game loop I wanted to it's full effect, but it showed the basic concept. It is the loop I wanted but I only got it to work with one word before I ran out of time, sooo.... It wasn't very helpful in learning whether the game was fun, but I think I did manage to get answers to the questions I originally had. From the prototyping process I learned which parts of creating the game was my favorite (writing all the descriptions and, overall, creating the narrative), which parts would probably be the hardest to do (the actual creation of objects and responsive text editing in inform), and whether or not inform would work well for the project. (I think so but it will require a lot more familiarity with the language, and it might not be worth it). More specifically Java would be easy if I just wanted to make the Narrator /Player back and forth aspect of the game. However, if I want to let the player interact with the changes they make in the world or move around in it, without trying to hard code all the responses, inform already has a system in place for that. Not to mention with inform it will package and create the game and create the interface for you, which is something I don't really know how to do in Java.
It also helped me answer a question I've wanted to know for a long time, which is how hard it is to make an interactive fiction game like the ones I used to play. I've never had the patience to learn all a languages' wierdnesses when i didn't have an actual goal in mind.
If I were to change it I would mostly just add a ton of functionality to it. I would give it a prequel that basically sets up the correction mechanic. If i got really motivated I might make the narrator a dynamic personality, who likes you or doesn't depending on what you change about the story- stanley parabole style. Most likely I would leave the dynamic as is with the narrator trying to kill you and you have to figure out how to survive, eventually killing the narrator.
